Kryptonite
There are many forms of kryptonite. Red, blue, gold, silver, black, but the most common one is green (when I say "kryptonite", I usually mean "green" kryptonite). Green kryptonite radiates onto Kryptonians when they are on Earth and hurts them severely. If they do not get away from it in time, they will eventually die. Green kryptonite came with little Kal-El (see Smallville) when he came to Earth. Kryptonite is basically debris from Krypton. Green kryptonite has stopped Superman in many ways. Lex Luthor (see Villains) uses it often to defeat Superman in many battles. At one point, he made a skin-tight suit called Prometheus that would absorb kryptonite which would eventually kill Superman.
Another type of kryptonite is red kryptonite. Red kryptonite strips Superman of his conscience. He doesn't separate right from wrong. He just does what he wants to do when he wants to do it. The first time he discovered red kryptonite was when he was a sophomore in high school. His school ring was made of red kryptonite. When his parents noticed it, they immediately tried to get it off. Another time he was under the influence of red kryptonite was when he realized he was putting a lot of people in danger with his abilities. He put on the red kryptonite ring and ran away to Metropolis. All he did there was steal, and get himself into trouble.
Another form of kryptonite is blue kryptonite. In my opinion, blue kryptonite is the nicest kryptonite. It doesn't do much to Superman. All it does is eliminate his powers as long as he's around it. A Kryptonian that went to Earth to study the effect of kryptonite on Earth was the first to discover this. His name was Dax-Ur. When he figured out that blue kryptonite eliminates your powers, he decided to stay on the peaceful planet with a blue kryptonite bracelet on. (Source: Smallville Season 7) Blue kryptonite is also the only way to stop villains like Bizzaro (see Villains) because he's the opposite, so if blue kryptonite doesn't hurt Superman, it will hurt the opposite of Superman.
Another form of kryptonite is silver. If Superman touches silver kryptonite, his skin will instantly absorb a shard of it. It then makes him paranoid. But not a little paranoid, but really paranoid. The first time he was under the influence of silver kryptonite, he saw his girlfriend kissing another guy, when she wasn't, he thought his parents were selling him out, which they weren't, and he thought that the mail that his father got was money that Lionel Luthor (see Villains) bribed him with. The only way to extract the silver kryptonite from him is by taking a Kryptonian tool and pulling it out. The process is very painful.
Another form of kryptonite is black. Black kryptonite splits up any Kryptonian into two people, one good, and one evil. In the show Smallville, Clark unwillingly went with his father, Jor-El, for training. Jor-El poisoned his mind and made him think he lived on Krypton and was sent Earth to destroy it. The only way to stop him was by splitting him into two people, the bad one (who they called Kal-El) and the good one (who they obviously called Clark). When the two were split, Clark defeated Kal-El.
Another form of kryptonite is gemstone. Gemstone doesn't hurt Superman, or take away his abilities. When Superman is around gemstone kryptonite, anything that he tells anyone to do will be done to the fullest extent. Such as, when Clark and Lois (see Lois Lane) first got together, Clark wanted her to be more.... wifey, and that's what he asked her to do. The next day, he comes home to Lois in a blue housewife dress, hair up, 60s style, and an enormous smile on her face. Lois became the perfect housewife, if this was the 70s. Another example is when he asked Chloe if she would be more protective of him. She did that to its fullest extent. And it went that way with everyone. He could make anyone do anything he wanted to. The only way to get rid of this was by Clark being around kryptonite.
Though kryptonite is one of his weaknesses, magic is the other. Superman can be affected by magic in every way. For example, Superman met a woman named Zatanna (see Justice League of America). She was a magical mistress. Her father was the king of all magic before he died. When Zatanna first met Superman, she (thought) she fell in love with him. but knew that he didn't feel the same way. So she cast a spell on him, making him love her. Even though magic affects him, the affects wear off within a few hours, as long as his body doesn't want them there. Like when Superman was feeling low, and thought about completely getting rid of his double identity, Zatanna did it for him. She made him think he was Clark and no one else. It took the world needing saving for him to snap back to reality.
